Veneto Region operates in the field of Environmental Protection, as defined by Community, national and regional legislation, divided into Secretariats and Departments that operate in different thematic areas. The Environmental Secretariat of Veneto Region, among other skills, specifically deals with water resources, both in terms of planning, both for protection and management, in particular in appliance to Water Framework Directive (2000/60/CE) and to the Marine Strategy Directive (2008/56/CE). In order to enhance the protection of sea-waters, the main aim of the several Departments of the Environmental Secretariat is the improvement of the knowledge of the status of aquatic ecosystems as well as terrestrial and wetland from which they depend, and the put in place of the measures to reduce impacts due to various types of pressures on this environment. In this context Veneto Region is the task coordinator for the WP “Shipping towards MSP” of IPA-Adriatic’s project “SHAPE”, defining approach and methodology, collecting data, making synthesis on Maritime Spatial Planning. The specific regional Department tests the provisions of the ICZM Protocol through a regional demonstration project and contributes to an atlas of pressure and impacts and to a tool book on IZCM in the Adriatic Region. Veneto Region will work also following the strategic objectives of the IPA-Adriatic’s strategic project “IMAGE“ and will also coordinate a technical Work Package. Implementing the plans and programs under the "Waters", “Floods” and “Marine Strategy” Directives, at the appropriate territorial level of intervention bring the need to produce information to identify the most appropriate indicators for the environmental targets and to assess the effectiveness of the measures taken.
